How do you know when something should be considered a “sign” or when it’s simply just an event that happens in your life?
I had an experience recently that made me question the concept of taking events in our lives as “signs” to do or not do something…let me take you back:
I had an interview for a coaching program, and going into the interview, my gut feeling was just a little off, but I didn’t know why.
The interview started off pretty well until things quickly plunged south.
The interviewer seemed disinterested in the conversation we were having, interrupted me several times to “just answer the question,” and said in the middle of the interview that “the vibes were off.”
Without going into too much detail, I decided to end the interview right then and there and not proceed forward working with the company.
Although the interview was by far the worst interview experience I had, it didn’t make me doubt my ability to be a coach and obtain the proper certifications for doing so.
But I realized…It would be so easy to take this interview as a “sign” that perhaps coaching isn’t for me and that I’ve made a huge mistake even thinking I could pursue being one.
This made me realize that there are situations and events that happen to us that we could falsely determine are indications that we’re doing something wrong or headed in the wrong direction.
Imagine if I had used that poor interview experience as an indication that I’m not cut out to be a coach.
It would feel really confusing to think that something that was once my purpose is now no longer, and I would be anxious not knowing what direction I should take instead.
➡️I say all of this because I think it’s extremely easy to claim that certain “signs” are indications that we shouldn’t do something when really it’s just our fear getting in the way.
➡️We fear taking the steps to pursue our dreams, so we decide instead to blame a “sign” in our lives that it’s not what we should be doing and that we should quit.
➡️It’s easy to let “signs” become convenient excuses for settling for things that are less than our potential and purpose.
✅Be cognizant of the “signs” you choose to live your life by or make decisions based on.
✅Because not all “signs” are signs, and maybe they’re just a crappy interview experience and a learning opportunity.
