Let’s cut to the chase- you only use your creative muscles to come up with excuses.
And you’re quite talented at it, I might add.
“I’ll start working out tomorrow because tonight I have a dinner party with friends and it’ll be like 10 pm by the time I get home and I’ll probably be full from all the pasta I ate anyway. Can’t work out on a stomach full of food…”
“I can’t open an Etsy shop because I don’t really like using social media, and how else would I promote my business? Plus it’s going to be just me….making everything, shipping everything, and marketing everything. I already volunteer and have my weekly music classes. I can’t add anything else to my plate.”
“I can’t start my No Caffeine Challenge this week because 100 years ago today, there was a full moon and a torrential downpour that caused city-wide flooding and the death of my great-great aunt’s cat. I’m mourning!!”
Seriously?
Every time you come up with an elaborate excuse, ask yourself… “What the fudge am I thinking?!”
Each excuse you come up with is not some silly “Oh well, I guess I’ll have to start tomorrow! Whoopsie!”
Excuses are not something to make up, brush off, and forget about.
Excuses are stifling your success. They’re depleting your energy and fueling the discontent you feel with your life.
Let me say that again- the excuses you tell yourself are fueling the discontent you feel with your life!
Instead of flexing your creative muscles to come up with excuses as to why you will or won’t do something, flex your creative muscles to change the world.
There are an infinite number of possibilities you could be using your creativity for… painting a mural, writing poems, creating TikTok videos, experimenting with a new dessert recipe, coding a website, literally, the list goes on.
But instead, you choose to use your creativity to come up with excuses. And for what?
To justify why you feel like you can’t pursue your dreams? To justify why you feel like you can’t start your workout journey today?
All of the excuses you come up with are simply justifications. Justifications that are holding you back.
So use your creativity to better your life, to better the lives of those around you.
Challenge yourself to make one less excuse today. Put intentional effort today to turn an excuse into an opportunity, an opportunity to take action.
And tell me this, 50 years from now, when you’re on your deathbed, are you going to feel good about all the excuses you made to live your best life?
Excuses are the enemy here. Be the hero and defeat them.
