It’s not enough to set a goal.
It’s not even enough to maintain that goal.
Goal formation is one thing, and ensuring your goal is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely only gets you half of the pie.
The greatest thing you can do for your goals is to make them:
✅ Achievable
✅ Sustainable
✅ And gives you the results of your wildest dreams
It is by changing your identity to align with those goals.
If your identity and the goals you’re pursuing do not align, your ability to achieve those goals will be underwhelming.
Imagine trying to build the habit of going to the gym 3 days a week.
But the whole time you’re building this habit, you tell yourself:
➡️ I’m not really a gym person
➡️ I’m not the type of person who enjoys working out
➡️ I don’t even look like I belong here compared to all the gym bros I see
Your ability to maintain the habit of going to the gym won’t last long because your identity and your actions don’t align.
And sooner rather than later, your identity will win, and you’ll stop going to the gym.
If you want to meet and exceed your goals and actually maintain your habits for the long haul, you have to change your identity.
Taking the same example as above, you have to align your identity with that of someone who frequents the gym:
➡️ I’m a gym person
➡️ I like working out
➡️ I belong here, just like everyone else does. My physical and mental health are important, just like everyone else here.
When your identity aligns with your goals, you’ve elevated your ability to follow through with and accomplish those goals.
The power of your identity is STRONG.
It’s what guides you through life, whether you explicitly acknowledge the power it has, your reality will always be guided by your identity.
So, if you’re serious about accomplishing your goals, then you need to start redefining who you are and who you see yourself as.
Ensuring that your identity and your goals align to make them a reality.
